Personal Note from Roger

Roger Dale Brown's father, Dale Brown, was born September 16, 1934 died October 22, 2009 at 9:05 pm.

"It was an honor to be with him his last few moments. He was a dear, sweet man whose love for his family was unconditional.  I loved him more than he will ever know."

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says: "there, she is gone!

"Gone where?"

Gone from my sight.  That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear the load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her.  And just at the moment when someone at my side says: " There, she is gone!"  there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: "Here she comes!"

And that is dying.

There is nothing that hasn’t already been done. Gimmicks or fads don't make art unique. What makes art unique is your unique personality. How many times have we painted the same scene with other people and each painting is different. Paint and study consistently and your painting will evolve through a series of failures. Stay true to yourself and your style will develop. Paint the essence of a scene and how it makes you feel, and you will realize a lot of problems have been solved.
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; un-rewarded genius is almost a proverb.  Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.  Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” - Calvin Coolidge
Roger Dale Brown is a landscape artist whose paintings capture the landscape and all of it's variety and beauty.
