Beverly and I were lucky enough to meet the Callaway family and learn first hand about the history of the garden, and the family home. We met Bo Callaway at a picnic for the artists at the event. We toured the family home and saw the blue spring were they bottle Callaway Blue Spring water and listened to the stories of how the kids went swimming in the spring. We ate at the "pic-nic veranda" were President Roosevelt ate when he was visiting and hunting. There is still a wheelchair ramp for him to have access to the veranda. Bo Callaway was kind enough to tell me were to get un-pasteurized milk. When we got home Bev and I made homemade butter.

This was painted during the Callaway Garden Plein-Air competition. It was painted in the garden of the Columbus Museum which was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect that designed Central Park in NYC.

Middle Tennessee  is one of the most paint able places in the country. I live in Franklin and am lucky to be able walk out the door and in less than 10 minutes I have my pick of several beautiful places to paint.

One of the places I really love to paint is Mississippi. Again the culture and landscape is great. The people are nice and down to earth. I have painted in the Delta, the middle of the state and all through the Northern part of the state and loved every minute.

I have been lucky enough to paint at the Laguna Beach Invitational competition 2009-2011. What a beautiful place. Beverly and I love setting up at the beach and painting the rocky coast line, listening to the waves crash. It's so peaceful and one of the best trips of the year. Being around some of the best artists in the country is always a plus.

After Beverly's son married in New Jersey, we drove to Camden, ME to meet a couple of artist friends to paint. We stopped in Gloucester on the way.  We only had a few days to stay but it was great painting and good to see our friends. The highlight of the trip was the last evening, when we bought fresh lobsters, grilled some potatoes, had a good bottle of shiraz and relive the days of painting with our friends.

This Tree is on the Quaker property where they had meetings at a church in the 1600s. The Church still stands and so does the tree. It dates back to that time.

Apparently some of the locals don't like it when you pull over into the ditch to paint a painting. A group of us were just finishing up our paintings, when we heard a horn honking coming down the road. Even though we were well of the road, which was a rural farm road that only 2 cars had passed while we painted, this man seemed offended that we were there at all.  He had some un-kind and colorful words about us NOT owning the road...After a few minutes of verbal back and forth, and a threat to go get "the law" he drove on. I to this day don't know what he was mad about. All I have to say to the guy is
 "If you give you shall receive" !

This is one of the prettiest most diverse areas of our country. Door county is a peninsula that separates Green Bay from Lake Michigan. Inland there are more barns and farms then I have ever seen and all along the shoreline, are quaint little towns with great sunsets.

This is a gorgeous pre-civil war antebellum home, that is one of our good friends childhood home and farm. Her mother still lives there and her brothers still farm the land. The house is close to were General Nathan Bedford Forest raided the fort and railroad. Their spring, which is across the street from the house was frequented by the soldiers for fresh water for themselves and their horses.

This was a trip Bev and I took in the dead of winter. It was wet and cold, so we painted under bridges, laurels and pines for a little bit of shelter. When we got back to our cabin in the evenings, it was so nice to light a fire, have a glass of wine and talk about the day.

I was teaching near Newnan at a farm owned by Mr. Chestnut. I had a field full of students and cows, when a very large bull wandered up. Mr. Chestnut says "Don't worry that bull hasn't never hurt anyone...YET". I stood watch the rest of the time the students were painting.

We met a fellow artist named, Erich Neubert while camping in Estes Park. He was camping in the site just above us, and we invited him to join us for a campfire dinner.  After that we became good friends.  Later that week Bev and I went painting and exploring, and were lucky enough to see Elk, Mule Deer and a Bear.

Wyoming is one of my favorite places to paint. the terrain is unique and diverse. Its a painters dream out there. We always have great stories when we get back from trips there. when we explore and hike we always see elk, mule deer, moose, black bear and grizzlies. It can be a little intimidating when you run across a grizzly, late in the evening, back in the woods. There are a lot of Plein-air stories from the Wyoming area.
